The Dhaka University authorities announced Tk 6.64 billion budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 allocating Tk 0.14billion, only 2 per cent of the proposed budget, for research, reports UNB.
DU treasurer professor M Kamal Uddin placed the budget in the annual senate session at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Saturday with vice-chancellor professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.
This year Tk 4.16 billion has been allocated for salary and allowances which is 62.63% per cent of total budget, and Tk 1.06 billion for pensions which is 15.96 per cent of the budget.
Besides, Tk 0.71 billion has been earmarked for the students' academic programme.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Tk 6.10 billion for the budget and Tk 0.42 billion will come from DU's own sources. The budget will likely have a deficit of only Tk 0.11 billion, the treasurer told the senate.
