Spinner Nathan Lyon struck thrice in quick succession to leave Bangladesh in a fix on Thursday morning, the fourth day of the Chittagong Test.
The Tigers went to lunch with 83 for 5, taking only an 11-run lead. Sabbir Rahman (20) and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (16) are in the crease, and the hosts will need them to bat as long as they can if they are to salvage the match.
In the morning, Australia lost their remaining wicket without adding a single run, meaning they had 377 in their first innings, a 72-run lead from the hosts’ first innings total of 305.
Pat Cummins dealt the Tigers the first blow when he made Soumya Sarkar give a catch to Matt Renshaw with the score on 11. Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal then added 21, but Lyon removed both of them to make the hosts’ job difficult.
The Bangladesh side needed Shakib Al Hasan to offer some resistance, but he soon also fell victim to Lyon’s spin.
Steve O'Keefe then sent Nasir Hossain back to the pavilion and the hosts were down to 43 for 5.
Sabbir and Mushfiq have made 40 in the sixth wicket till now.
