Reshuffle in IBBL

Staffers' involvement in politics won't be tolerated: Arastoo

Staff Correspondent | Update:

Newly appointed chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd Arastoo Khan said on Thursday that the bank will not accept any direct political involvement as they want professionals in the bank.

" I have already said that none of the employees of the bank will lose their job. But anybody's direct involvement in politics will not be accepted. We want professionals in this bank," said the newly appointed chair.

He was talking to journalists after a meeting with finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith at the secretariat.

Journalists mentioned that there is no rule about political involvement of employees in private banks.

"They can vote for BNP if they want to. We don't have any problem as long as they perform their duties. The new board of directors is united. Nobody has to worry," Arastoo Khan answered.

When asked if anybody has been indentified for their political involvement, he said, "No, I don't like marking employees in this way. The bank will run professionally."

The massive reshuffling in Islami Bank's top positions on 5 January was aimed at freeing the Shariah-based bank from what persons concerned claimed as the clutch of Jamaat-e-Islami men.

Arastoo Khan, a former bureaucrat who was chairman of Commerce Bank, was made chairman after new directors were inducted into the bank's board of directors.
