100 tech institutes to create skilled workforce

The government has started setting up 100 technical schools and colleges in 100 upazilas to create skilled human resources through technical education.

The project is being implemented at a cost of Tk 2281.69 crore, according to an official document.

Administrative approval has been given for land acquisition for the institutes in 91 upazilas while budget has been disbursed for 59.

"Tenders have been floated to construct infrastructures for 39 of the technical schools and colleges," the document says adding that the land acquisition process in the rest nine upazials is going on.

In the second phase of the project, there will be 389 technical schools and colleges across the country. It was discussed in the second pre-evaluation committee (PEC) meeting held recently in the Planning Commission.

"The PEC gave directives for some amendments to the project, and a process is on to reforming the development project proforma (DPP) as per the amendment directives. Soon it will be sent to the Planning Commission for final nod," the document stated.

Apart from this project, the government has planned to set up four female polytechnic institutes in Barisal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensing divisions to provide technical education to female students.

Besides, activities to set up eight female technical schools and colleges in eight divisional headquarters are going on. The formulation of the Development Project Proforma (DPP) is on as per the directives of the PEC.
