Exam paper leak needs action, not denial

Instead of taking action against the crime, the authorities have simply been denying that the question papers of the public exams are being leaked out. It’s as if the problem will disappear if they keep their eyes shut. But the problem has not disappeared. A strong syndicate has been built up in the guise of a coaching centre, Gyankosh Academy, where the question papers are leaked. There were allegations against 19 persons, seven of whom were teachers of four schools in Motijheel, for the involvement in this leakage scam. Nine of them have been arrested.

The SSC math paper was distributed in the morning of the day of the exam. Dhaka Board expressed their suspicions that the teachers were leaking out the questions just before the exam. But it was seen that the question papers were leaked within the exam centres.

According to the confessional statements of the accused in court, the owner of the coaching centre would distribute the leaked questions papers through the teachers in exchange for a huge sum of money. Just before the exams began, the papers would be photographed and the solutions worked out rapidly by the teachers. The students and their guardians can’t escape the blame either. If the guardians didn’t want their students to pass their exams by unfair means, then this scam would not be so successful.

Only a few of the guilty persons have been caught. There are many other gangs involved in this. The law enforcement must catch them and hand them over to the law. Steps must be taken against the guardians too.

The statement made by the education minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a meeting of the anti corruption commission on Friday is cause for concern. He said, “We are in such a situation where we can’t openly reveal everything, even if we cannot tolerate what is going on.” If the minister can’t speak openly, then just imagine the state of the general public. He says he cannot tolerate what is going on. He must put his words into action. The propensity to evade the truth must be given up and action must be taken against the guilty persons.
