The talks of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) with president Abdul Hamid on the reconstitution of the election commission (EC) has concluded.
Led by AL president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the 19-strong delegation entered presidential palace Bangabhaban around 4:30pm and came out of the palace after 5:30pm.
After coming out of Bangbhaban, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader told newsmen that the talks were “fruitful.”
Party insiders said the party would brief the media at the party president’s Dhanmondi office this evening about the talks.
President Abdul Hamid initiated the formal talks with political parties over the formation of the new EC through BNP on 18 December last year and so far held meetings with 22 political parties.
Abdul Hamid took the dialogue initiative as the tenure of the current Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led EC expires in February.
