Bangladesh Paribesh Andalan (BAPA) has demanded immediate measures for relocating Eco Park from the Shitalakkhya river at Khanpur Barafkal area in Narayanganj.
BAPA made the call on Friday at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
The green organisation alleged that the Eco Park has been constructed grabbing a portion of Shitalakkhya which is often dubbed as capital’s one of the lifelines.
At the programme, columnist and BAPA vice-president Syed Abul Maksud said it is not understandable how the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) allowed a business entity building a park grabbing the Shitalakkhya river, without giving a damn to a High Court order.
“Conscious citizens preserve rights to know how a minister could inaugurate the park which was set up on parts of the Shitalakkhya river,” he added.
BAPA’s Narayanganj unit president Abu Bakar Siddique said grabbing of Shitalakkhya for building the Eco park is a clear violation of a 2009 judgment of the High Court.
Other speakers at the press conference also demanded immediate relocation of the Eco park and bring the Shitalakkhya river back to its previous shape.
An Eco park has recently been set up on a piece of leased land from the BIWTA at Khanpur Barafkal area in Narayanganj.
