Quader’s meet with CJ stuns, worries BNP

Staff Correspondent | Update:

FakhrulBangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) of mounting pressure on the judiciary.

Referring to a news report that Quader visited the residence of chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and had dinner together on Saturday night, Fakhrul said the incident has stunned BNP, and made it anxious as well.

Fakhrul was addressing a doa mahfil (prayers session) organised at party’s Naya Paltan headquarters to seek Almighty’s blessings for early recovery of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from her illness.

BNP’s student wing Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised the prayers session.

The BNP leader came down heavily on the AL leaders for their criticism of the 16th amendment annulment verdict and said the way the government and the AL leaders are speaking against the chief justice and the judiciary doesn’t go with political norms. “It is the language of terrorism.”

He alleged further that the AL government has spearheaded a new conspiracy to destroy country’s democracy.

He called on the AL to face the BNP politically, shunning its “tactic of putting pressure on the judiciary”.
