Central Hospital vandalised over DU student’s death

Central Hospital Ltd was vandalised after the death of a Dhaka University student during her treatment at the hospital on Thursday. 

The deceased was Afia Zahan Chaiti, 19, a student of Zoology at Dhaka University.

Falling sick, Afia was admitted to Central Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. But she breathed her last in the afternoon during treatment.

According to the Central Hospital authorities, a number of Afia’s classmates attacked the hospital’s emergency department, reception, and rooms of the directors, alleging physician medical negligence for Afia’s death. 

At one stage, the angry mob of students forcibly took MA Quashem, a director of the hospital, to Dhanmondi police station.

Quoting the DU students, assistant commissioner of police of Dhanmondi zone, Abdullahil Kafi told Prothom Alo, the students claimed that physician negligence led to the death of Afia.
