A case was filed against Rafiur Rabbi, father of slain schoolboy Twaki, with a local court here on Wednesday on charge of hurting the religious sentiment of the Muslims.
Maulana Ferdousur Rahman, a local leader of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh, filed the case with the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Judge Ashok Kumar Dutta took cognisance of the complaint and asked the officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of district to submit a report in this regard within 7 May after investigation.
Advocate Sultan Arefin, a counsel of the plaintiff, said several charges, including defaming the independence and sovereignty of the country, Liberation War and freedom fighters, disobeying the constitution and hurting the religious sentiments, were brought against Rabbi, the convener of Santras Nirmul Tawki Mancha.
According to the case statement, Rafiur Rabbi made some remarks while addressing a function on the occasion of 25th founding anniversary of Cultural Academy at Chashara Shaheed Miar on 7 April.
“The 30 lakh freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom during the Liberation War, would not have joined the war had they known that the country’s constitution would begin with Arabic word ‘Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim’ and country would turn into a communal one,” he had said.
