The police on Monday cordoned off two houses, which the law enforcers claimed as the hideouts of militants, in the port city’s Colonel Haat on Monday evening.
A team of police, including a bomb disposal unit, and Special Weapon and Tactic Team (SWAT) members, cordoned off the two houses around 4:15 pm, said Nazmul Ahsan, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (West zone).
He added that some 200 members of the law enforcement agencies are preparing to launch an operation in the houses.
Earlier, on 16 March, four suspected militants, including a female one and a six-year-old boy, were killed during a special raid by joint forces on a militant hideout at Premtala in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong, ending an overnight standoff. Two SWAT members were also injured during the gunfight.
According to the police, the special team also rescued 20 people of a number of families who got trapped in the house during the drive.
