Bangladeshi driver ‘hacked a compatriot to death in Dubai'

Online Desk | Update:

A Bangladeshi driver hacked a compatriot to death in an act of self-defence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reports a Dubai-based online portal 'The Nation' on Sunday.
The 38-year-old told the Dubai Criminal Court that he attacked the victim on 22 November last year at a site in Al Rashidiya in the country at around 7:00am. The victim later succumbed to his injuries, it added.
"Witnesses said to officers that the driver stabbed the victim then fled," an Emirati policeman was quoted to have said.
"We rushed the victim to hospital but he passed away the following day, the same day we apprehended his attacker," he was also quoted.
Emirati policeman was further quoted to have said that the defendant told officers the victim had assaulted him and he was only defending himself.
"They had a work-related argument then engaged in a fight. The defendant picked up a metal bar and the [victim] carried a wooden plank and assaulted the [defendant], after which we managed to break them apart and report the matter to a supervisor," a Bangladeshi co-worker was also quoted to have said.
