One Year of Tonu Murder

Anonymous caller asks us to remain silent: Tonu’s mother

Online Desk | Update:

Sohagi Jahan TonuAlthough one year has elapsed since the tragedy, the killers of college girl Sohagi Jahan Tonu still remain traceless with family members expressing frustration over the investigation into the sensational killing, reports UNB.

Tonu, a 2nd-year student of the History department of Comilla Victoria College and member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside Comilla Cantonment on 20 March last year.

Tonu’s father Yaar Hossain, office assistant of Comilla Cantonment Board, filed a case against some unidentified people with Kotwali Police Station the following day.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police is now investigating the killing after local police and the Detective Branch of police.

However, the killing case is yet to see light although autopsies were carried out on the body of the college girl and the investigation agency was changed twice.

Voicing anger, Tonu’s mother Anwara Begum said, “We’re tired of knocking the CID seeking justice. We don’t know whether we’ll get justice or not.”

She also alleged that an anonymous caller asked Tonu’s father over their land phone on Sunday to keep silent, threatening that he will lose his job if otherwise.

Meanwhile, investigation officer of the case CID’s assistant police super Jalal Uddin Ahmed said they could not carry out probe in November, December and January as there was army rehearsal then.

He also said they were waiting for the forensic test report of several items, including sandals, a pen and the mobile phone bag, found by the body of Tonu.
