Awami League publicity and publication secretary Hassan Mahmud on Friday said, like in other democratic countries of the world, prime minister Sheikh Hasina will remain head of the government during the next parliamentary polls.
"Sheikh Hasina will be the head of election-time government and the polls will be held under the Election Commission," he said speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting marking the 75th birth anniversary of eminent nuclear scientist Wazed Miah.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized the discussion meeting at Shilpakala Academy in the city with the organisation's president Syed Hassan Imam presiding.
AL Dhaka City South general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, World University vice-chancellor professor Abdul Mannan, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote vice-president Enamul Huq, Shilpakala Academy director general Liaqat Ali Lucky and AL leader Baloram Poddar addressed the meeting.
Hassan Mahmud said the BNP has been isolated from the people because of its wrong politics of not joining the last general election.
It seems that the BNP will not commit this type of suicidal mistake in future, he added.
The former minister said the next election will be held on time. It will not wait for none, he added.
The government has no intention to send BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to jail, he said, adding that the court will decide on the matter.
Referring to the use of electronic voting machine (EVM) in polls, Hassan Mahmud said the BNP expressed apprehension over this for lack of knowledge about this modern system.
He paid tributes to late eminent scientist Wazed Miah and said naming the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant after him would be discussed in the party meeting.
