Meat traders said beef price would go down to Tk 300 per kilogram if their demands are met.
Bangladesh Meat Traders’ Association secretary general Rabiul Alam said, “If the hassles in importing cows from India are removed, we can sell beef at Tk 300 or less.”
He was speaking at a press conference at Segunbagicha area in the capital on Friday.
He told Prothom Alo there will be a strike for indefinite period if their demands are not met.
He also said their ongoing strike will be temporarily suspended after Saturday.
The Bangladesh Meat Traders’ Association enforced a six-day countrywide strike from Monday protesting at harassment in conducting their business.
Their 4-point demand includes stopping extra money charging by the leaseholders of Gabtoli cattle market and prevention of extortion on roads while transporting cows.
