PM to use foreign airlines to join Davos Forum

Online Desk | Update:

Hasina1Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will use a flight of foreign airlines to travel to Switzerland on a five-day official visit beginning Sunday night to attend annual meeting of World Economic Forum.

“An Eitihad Airways flight carrying the premier and her entourage members will leave [Dhaka] Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:45pm,” state-run news agency BSS reported on Saturday.

The last time the prime minister travelled abroad was by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flight that met with a reported technical glitch and the aircraft made emergency landing in Turkmenistan.

Quoting a briefing of foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali on Saturday, the BSS report said prime minister Sheikh Hasina's participation in the 47th Annual Meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) set to begin on 17 January in Davos, Switzerland, would yield 'desired results' in the country's socio-economic sector.

"With prime minister's participation, the meeting would play a catalytic role in encouraging investment of world's renowned multinational companies, businessmen and entrepreneurs in Bangladesh's socio-economic sectors," Mahmood Ali was quoted to have said.

He told the briefing that the premier leaves Dhaka for Davos, a mountain resort in Graubünden, in the eastern Alps region of Switzerland, on Sunday night on a five-day official visit.

At least nine officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines were suspended and are now in the dock following an emergency landing of the VVIP flight of the country’s flagship carrier carrying the prime minister in Turkmenistan on on her way to Hungary on 27 November 2016.
